Uganda Mission Trip 2014
I felt the Lord calling me to go to Uganda when I went to a benefit concert with my mom. Honestly, we just went because we liked the band. While we were there, they showed a video from the girl who was raising money; she was trying to build an orphanage in Uganda. My mom did not even have to look at me, she just said, "You're going there, aren't you?" And I said, "Yes." I didn't know when, but I knew I was going to go - someday. When I graduated in 2012 when a friend gave me the book "Kisses for Katie" for graduation. I had forgotten all about Uganda, but when I read the back of the book it was like falling in love all over again. Six months later, five girls from my school were going on a mission trip to Uganda. The deadline had already passed, but I figured, "You have not because you ask not". I emailed the lady and asked about applying to Uganda. She basically told me - before she even got my application - that I was approved. I went to Uganda and fell in love. It felt like home. I didn't mind not having air conditioning. I didn't mind not knowing what I was eating half the time. I didn't mind working in a garden, painting a latrine, and getting callouses on my fingers from working with bricks made of that wonderful red clay dirt and water. I loved it. It was like being home. I didn't miss home. I didn't miss my bed or my fan or my laptop or my TV. I didn't miss being able to drink and eat whatever I wanted without having to be careful because I might get a parasite. I just loved being there. This year, I am so excited to be going back! I cannot believe I will be there again in less than 100 days. It doesn't feel real yet, but I am so excited! While in Uganda I will be working on building a new home for the kids at the orphanage I work with, doing VBS and loving on the kids there. We are building a new building so that the orphanage can reach out to the community and provide medical care and the love of Christ to the community. I cannot wait to go back and see all my wonderful Ugandan babies again! I really hope that one day I will be able to go to Uganda and live there for a few months. And I cannot wait to share all of these wonderful experiences with you. Thank you so much for all of your love and support. God bless.
"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"" ~ Isaiah 52:7
I chose this design because God spoke a while back and told me He was going to do big things with me, but I had to dream and dream bigger thane ever before. Plus, ever since the first time I went to Uganda, I fell in love with elephants! (Even though - contrary to popular belief - you don't randomly see them wandering around in Uganda.)
